A cron job runs a command automatically on a schedule — for backups, maintenance scripts, or application tasks. cPanel makes setting one up straightforward.
Cron handles anything that should happen regularly without you doing it: nightly backups, clearing caches, sending scheduled reports, or running an application’s background tasks reliably at a fixed time.
In Cron Jobs, set the schedule (minute, hour, day) and enter the command to run. cPanel offers common schedule presets, so you don’t have to memorise cron timing syntax.
Don’t schedule heavy jobs too frequently, or they can pile up and strain the server. Use the full correct path to scripts, and set an email so you’re notified if a job produces errors.
Cron jobs automate scheduled tasks like backups and scripts — set a sensible frequency and use full paths and email alerts.
