Inodes are the number of files and folders in your account. Hosting plans cap them, and hitting the limit can stop new files — so it’s worth understanding.
Every file and folder uses one inode, regardless of size. A site with thousands of tiny cache files, emails or images can use far more inodes than its disk space alone suggests.
Heavy caches, large mailboxes, old backups and bloated plugins generate huge numbers of small files. Email especially, with each message a separate file, can quietly consume your inode allowance.
Clear caches and logs, empty spam and trash mail folders, remove old backups, and prune unused files. Keeping a tidy account keeps your inode count comfortably within limits.
