How to Migrate WordPress to a New Host

5 May 2026 · 7 min read · DelhiHosting Team

Moving WordPress to better hosting sounds daunting, but with the right approach it’s smooth and downtime-free. Here are your two main options.

Option 1: migration plugin

A reputable migration plugin packages your whole site — files and database — into a single transferable file you restore on the new host. It’s the easiest route for most sites and handles URL changes automatically.

Option 2: manual move

For full control, copy your files via FTP, export the database from phpMyAdmin, recreate it on the new host, and update wp-config.php with the new database details. Then adjust the site URL if needed.

Switch DNS last

Test the site on the new host before changing your domain’s DNS, so visitors never hit a half-moved site. Once it’s confirmed working, point your domain to the new server. We offer free migration on our plans.

Quick tips
  • Use a migration plugin for simplicity
  • Test on the new host before switching DNS
  • Keep the old host live until DNS propagates
  • Ask us — migration is free on our plans
Key takeaway

Migrate with a plugin or by hand, test thoroughly on the new server, and switch DNS only once it’s confirmed working — for zero downtime.
