How to Move WordPress From HTTP to HTTPS

24 Feb 2026 Β· 5 min read Β· DelhiHosting Team

Switching WordPress from http to https secures your visitors and removes the "Not Secure" label. Done in the right order, it’s painless and SEO-safe.

Activate SSL first

Make sure a valid SSL certificate is active for your domain β€” on our hosting, AutoSSL usually handles this. Without an active certificate, switching URLs to https will break the site.

Update URLs and redirect

Set both addresses to https in Settings β†’ General, then redirect all http traffic to https with a plugin or .htaccess rule, so old links and search results reach the secure version.

Clear mixed content

Fix any images, scripts or links still pointing to http using a search-replace tool, or the browser will warn about mixed content. Once everything loads over https, the padlock appears site-wide.

Quick tips
  • βœ“Confirm SSL is active before switching
  • βœ“Update both URLs to https
  • βœ“Redirect http to https
  • βœ“Search-replace old http links
Key takeaway

Activate SSL, switch URLs to https, redirect, then clear mixed content β€” a clean, SEO-safe move to a secure site.
