How to Use the cPanel File Manager

20 May 2026 · 4 min read · DelhiHosting Team

File Manager lets you handle your website’s files right in the browser — no FTP client needed. It’s perfect for quick uploads, edits and fixes.

Navigate to public_html

Your live website lives in the public_html folder. Open File Manager, go there, and you’ll see your site’s files. Other domains on the account have their own folders alongside it.

Upload, edit and manage

Use the toolbar to upload files, create folders, and edit text files like .htaccess directly. You can compress, extract, move and rename files too — handy for deploying a site from a zip.

Work safely

Before editing an important file, use the Copy option to keep a backup. Show hidden files when you need to edit dotfiles like .htaccess, and double-check paths so you don’t overwrite the wrong file.

Quick tips
  • Your site lives in public_html
  • Edit .htaccess and config files in place
  • Copy a file before editing it
  • Enable "show hidden files" for dotfiles
Key takeaway

File Manager handles uploads and edits in the browser — work in public_html, back up files before editing, and you rarely need FTP.
