How to Upload a Website via FTP

15 May 2026 Β· 5 min read Β· DelhiHosting Team

For larger sites or bulk transfers, FTP is the reliable way to move files between your computer and your hosting. Here’s how to connect and upload cleanly.

Get your FTP details

In cPanel, create or view an FTP account to get the host, username, password and port. These go into an FTP client such as FileZilla, which gives you a two-panel view of your computer and server.

Upload to the right folder

Connect, then drag your website files into public_html for your main domain (or the relevant domain folder). Keep the folder structure intact so links and includes resolve correctly.

Transfer reliably

For big sites, upload a zip and extract it in File Manager to save time. If a transfer drops, FileZilla can resume. Use secure FTP (FTPS/SFTP) where available to protect your credentials.

Quick tips
  • βœ“Create an FTP account in cPanel
  • βœ“Upload into public_html
  • βœ“Zip large sites and extract on the server
  • βœ“Prefer secure FTP (FTPS/SFTP)
Key takeaway

Connect FileZilla with your cPanel FTP details, upload into public_html, and use a zip for big sites β€” reliable transfers every time.
