How to Fix the WordPress White Screen of Death

The "white screen of death" is a blank page with no error — alarming, but almost always fixable in a few minutes once you know the usual suspects.

Suspect plugins and themes first

The most common cause is a plugin or theme conflict, often after an update. Deactivate all plugins (rename the plugins folder via File Manager if you’re locked out), then reactivate them one by one to find the culprit. Switch to a default theme to rule the theme out.

Raise the PHP memory limit

A blank screen can also mean WordPress ran out of memory. Increase the PHP memory limit in cPanel’s INI editor or wp-config.php. More memory lets heavy plugins and pages finish loading.

Turn on debugging

If it’s still blank, enable WP_DEBUG in wp-config.php to reveal the underlying error message, which points you straight to the file or plugin at fault. Turn debugging off again once fixed.
