How to Change Your WordPress Login URL

15 Jan 2026 Β· 3 min read Β· DelhiHosting Team

Bots find your login by trying /wp-admin and /wp-login. Moving your login page to a custom address hides it from automated attacks with almost no effort.

Why hide the login

Automated attacks assume the default login locations. Changing the URL means those bots hit a dead end, dramatically cutting the brute-force traffic and noise your site receives.

Set a custom URL

A plugin lets you rename the login path to something only you know, such as yoursite.com/my-office. The default wp-admin and wp-login paths then return "not found" to strangers.

Remember and protect it

Bookmark your new login URL so you don’t lock yourself out, and still keep strong passwords and two-factor on β€” hiding the login is a useful extra layer, not a replacement for them.

Quick tips
  • βœ“Rename the login path with a plugin
  • βœ“Choose something only you know
  • βœ“Bookmark it so you don’t forget
  • βœ“Keep passwords and 2FA as well
Key takeaway

Moving your login URL hides it from bots and cuts brute-force traffic β€” a quick extra layer on top of strong passwords and 2FA.
