How to Use Leech Protection in cPanel

Leech Protection spots when a password-protected area is being shared or abused, and automatically locks the offending account. It’s a simple anti-abuse safeguard.

What it guards against

If a login to a protected directory is shared widely or stolen, many people may use one account at once. Leech Protection detects an unusual number of logins in a short time and steps in.

Enable it

In Leech Protection, choose the protected directory, set the maximum logins allowed in a two-hour window, and decide what happens when it’s exceeded — such as suspending the user and alerting you.

Where it helps

It’s most useful for membership areas or paid content behind a login, where shared credentials cost you. For general site security, combine it with strong passwords and the other cPanel safeguards.
